'Slios-na-Beinne' is a comfortably refurbished cottage adjoining owner's
property in the village of North Tolsta approximately 11 miles north of
Stornoway (a 20 minutes' drive). Its location makes it an ideal base
for touring and exploring the islands of Lewis and Harris.
North Tolsta is a typical crofting and fishing community where Gaelic
is still the main language.
The post office/shop are within walking distance from the house and
there are several travelling shops which come weekly.
'Slios-na-Beinne' (by the side of the hill) is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac
in an elevated position facing Broadbay with beautiful panoramic
views across the Minch from Cape Wrath to the mountains on the
mainland. At night the flashes of the following lighthouses can be seen:
Cape Wrath, Stoer Head, Rubha Reidh and Tiumpan Head across the
bay in Lewis.
The house has a large walled garden to the front and rear with outdoor
seating and children's play area. There are also ample private car
parking facilities.
Close by (within 2 miles) are the secluded sandy beaches of Garry
Beach, Traigh Mhor and Giordail Beach (where an episode of the BBC programme 'COAST' was filmed).
